PCA—On the record, Chevrolet’s new mid-engined C8 Corvette is merely an interesting curiosity to the folks at Porsche AG and Porsche Cars North America. Behind closed doors, one gets the impression that the threat assessment is a little bit different. The C8 is likely the first Corvette that can seriously hunt for conquests among Porsche owners, and the
first that presents something close to an existential threat to any Porsche product line, in this case the base four-cylinder turbo 718 Boxster/Cayman. For about the same money, the Corvette brings a 490-horsepower V8 against a 300-hp turbo four, and it’s nearly two seconds faster from zero to 60 miles per hour.
