Owning a Porsche and experiencing PCA, as told by members
|
PCA—In this edition of Test Drive News, a monthly newsletter for PCA Test Drive participants, we bring you stories about Porsche ownership as told by
members, plus a look at several benefits of being a PCA member, such as attending member-only events including Tech Tactics, Auto Show Club Previews, Porsche Parade, and more. We hope the content below gives you a clearer idea of what PCA is all about and some of the ways you can take advantage of a membership.

PCA—What started out way back in 1955 as “the gripe group” at a local steakhouse in Washington, D.C. has grown in ways Porsche Club of America (PCA) founder Bill Sholar could have only imagined. Today PCA is approaching 130,000 members and hosts thousands of events in North America every year. In this video, see a slice of Porsche ownership and PCA membership as told by our members.
| | PCA—One of the club's most important member benefits is its monthly magazine, Porsche Panorama. Each month, the magazine brings members feature stories about the latest and greatest Porsches and the people who own them, as well as automotive news, tech articles, and much more. As a Test Drive participant, you will be receiving six months
of Panorama delivered to your mail box. |
PCA—Each year, PCA holds its annual
"convention" — or Porsche vacation — Porsche Parade. Members from across North America descend upon the chosen location and proceed to have fun with their Porsches and each other. Parade compresses many types of events held at the Region level during the year into a relatively short time period. Activities include Concours d'Elegance, autocross, Parade Juniors programs, banquets, driving tours, time-speed-distance rallies, and much more. Find out more about this year's Parade at the Lake of the
Ozarks by clicking the link below.
| | PCA—Metropolitan New York Region Member Irwin Levy bought a Porsche Macan about a year ago and became a PCA member. The ownership experience of the compact sports utility vehicle compelled him to write an article about it — proof that even four-door Porsches spark the driving enthusiast in us. Read Levy's review of the base Macan by clicking

PCA—Do you like to drive your Porsche, explore new
areas, and dine on delicious food? Then PCA's bi-annual Treffen North America might be for you. When members attend Treffen, they may expect no competitive activities such as concours or autocross, just a relaxing long weekend dedicated to driving and exploring new places in North America.
PCA—Mart Fresh is a column in which PCA media staff pick what they think are the freshest Porsches currently available in The Mart, and then attempt to explain their reasoning. Check out the most recent reviews

PCA—One of the exciting aspects of being a PCA member is the chance to enter our spring and fall raffles, in which we give away several Porsches. From a Cayman GT4, 911 Carrera GTS, and, most recently, a 911 Carrera T, each raffle's grand prize is one of Porsche's newest vehicles. Watch us surprise a member with a Carrera T in our latest raffle.
| | PCA—One of the most important aspects of being a PCA member is the people you'll meet. Take Rick Becker, for instance, a Porsche fanatic who's also an expert on the 912 and 912E models. He runs the 912 & 912E Register, too, where you may find all sorts of information about the model, how to take care of it, and meet other 912 enthusiasts. We sat down with him for an
interview at Porsche Parade 2017 in Spokane for this video as well as a Porsche Panorama article, and there are many other friendly, knowledgable enthusiasts you'll meet at all PCA events who will help improve your ownership experience. |
PCA—Porsche is best known for making sports cars — and now sedans and SUVs — but the company has its hand in all types of product development. Yes, Sierra Nevada Region member Jim Hemig is a Porsche car owner, but he's also an avid cyclist. His bike of choice? A Porsche. Read one of his Porsche bike escapades by clicking through.
| | PCA—The club has long had a technical aspect to it due to our members' interest to learn all about their Porsches — including technical subjects — and perform repairs and maintenance themselves. Our Tech Tactics events are held each year, once on the West Coast, once out east. They take place at Porsche Cars North America's dealership training facilities, which are
not normally open to the public. Members may watch presentations by Porsche employees, PCA tech experts, and industry insiders, as well as mingle between presentations and pick their brains about the most complex or mundane technical subjects. Click through to watch several presentations from both Tech Tactics events (though please note we did not include presentations by Porsche employees. |
PCA—Not long ago Panorama Editor-in-Chief Rob Sass was in the market for a Porsche, and he decided to go with one of the more controversial 911s in recent memory. Why is it controversial? The main reason is it was the first 911 to not be equipped with an air-cooled flat six. The water-cooled flat six didn't seem do bother Sass, as you'll find out in
his article. | | |
| | PCA—One of PCA's most exciting events is Werks Reunion, which is held twice a year, on the West Coast during Monterey Car Week and the East Coast of Florida during the Amelia Island Concours weekend. Werks Reunion is a great way to show off your Porsche in the display corral or compete in a concours-like competition. Werks Reunion is a PCA event that's open to everybody and doesn't
cost a dime, a great place to hang out with all types of car enthusiasts who have an interest in Porsche. Watch this video of last year's Werks Reunion Amelia Island. |
PCA—Rudy and Nancy Samsel are from New Jersey and love to hang out with their friends in PCA. Case in point: They drove their Porsche Boxster from New Jersey to Washington for the Porsche Parade in Spokane last year. A long drive in a small car, but it was worth it for nearly a week of fun in Washington state. Watch their story by clicking through.
| | PCA—Though we've covered mostly PCA National events in this newsletter thus far, there are thousands of events put on by nearly 150 PCA Regions each year. Last year Riesentöter Region Member David Newton joined PCA members on a driving tour out to the factory of renowned guitar maker C.F. Martin & Co. Read his story by clicking through. |
PCA—What's a Porsche if you don't drive it? Most PCA members love to drive their Porsche, oftentimes at high rates of speed. The club's local Regions hold autocross events and High Performance Driver's education events throughout the year to educate members on how to drive their cars and to have some good old
high-speed fun. A few years ago, Northeast Region member Richard Viard decided to make a video to show members what exactly is an autocross. Watch it by clicking through.
| | PCA Club Racing—Is autocross not fast enough and High Performance Driver's Education too tame? Then perhaps you'll be interested in PCA Club Racing, the competitive, head-to-head racing arm of the club in which drivers compete in all types of Porsche from all years. |
PCA—To those who are fearful they can't afford a Porsche, we bring you this story about Panorama Editor-in-Chief Rob Sass' 924. Porsches are often associated with prices that don't dip below tens — or even hundreds — of thousands of dollars, but
that just isn't the case. On a mission to experience a front-engined Porsche, Sass found this lovely brown 924 in Washington state for about $2,000, and then drove it back home to Michigan. Read about his trip by clicking the link below.
| | PCA—There's a first time for everything, and one's first drive in a Porsche can be intimidating. Mardis Gras Region Member Beti Spangel's first time was in 2016 in her husbands 911. Despite her trepidation, she had a fun time. Read her story by clicking the link below. |
PCA—Thousands of events held by PCA Regions and Zones every year could not be done without volunteers. They are the beating heart of PCA, and without them, the organization would no doubt be much different. If you become a PCA member, be sure to look into how you can help out in volunteer positions to keep the club running.
